You say it's your birthday . . .

Well, it's my birthday, too, yeah.

Today's my 40th birthday. whee.

It's bothering me a little more than it should, but I'm dealing with it.

We had a big celebration while we were in Atlanta at my parents' house. My sister made me a cake and then turned the girls loose with tubes of icing to decorate it. They made sure to put 40 candles on it - I'm surprised the smoke alarms didn't go off.

My best friend since childhood left a surprise for me at the house - the lovely hat and medallion I'm sporting in the picture. The kids thought they were hysterical.

No big plans for the day. I've told B I just want cake, lots and lots of cake.

Mostly I'm going to spend today feeling fortunate for the gifts I wake up to every day - a wonderful husband; four happy, healthy kids; a circle of great friends; and a supportive, loving family. Those are more valuable than anything that comes from a store.

Happy Birthday!

p.s. I don't think we can place a limit on how much turning 40 ... or 50 for that matter ... should bother us. Just sayin.

blogger is being fussy - so I may be leaving my 3rd comment, or blogger may have eaten them all. Each time to retype the comment it gets shorter and less funny. :-)

Happy birthday! Wear a tiara all weekend.

Hey, being 40 sure beats the alternative!

Happy birthday! I did 40 a few years ago. It's not so bad, once you get over the initial shock. And lots and lots of cake sounds like a GREAT way to celebrate!

Very happy birthday to you. These days I only celebrate those with a zero in them. 40 was good, I spent it 32,000 feet in the air coming home after an amazing overseas holiday, 50 now that one bothered me, people stopped saying 'oh you don't look your age at all'. Enjoy your weekend and stuff yourself stupid with cake!

I just turned 40 too. Didn't even mention it on my blog. I'm still adjusting to 40. Sounds like you have your priorities in order.

40 was okay with me. Now I am freaking out over turning 50, which won't happen for six years, so I may be overdoing it just a bit.

Hope your day was great!

Happy belated Birthday. It doesn't matter what the age we turn - sometimes we just stop and look around to see if we're standing in the right spot. If it's yes, or there is a nice view, the birthday is good. If we've veered off track or we see the window of the "building" next door, it might not be as good.
